Here are answers to Frequently Asked Questions from authors.
Below are some of the common FAQs that potential clients may have. If you still have questions after reading this page, feel free to contact us and we will do our best to answer your concerns.
What long-term costs are involved?
None. We do NOT charge any ongoing fees; we do NOT take any of your royalties. Instead, we charge a fair price of our services. There may be some renewal fees to third-party vendors (such as to WordPress to renew your website annually), but we will not be collecting anything further from you.
Other companies, like some vanity presses or website developers, will demand ongoing fees. As long as there is more money in your wallet, they will be coming up with more ways to spend it, adding on questionable extras and bogus benefits.
By going with Public Author, you will be saving money as well as getting high-quality services. Our job is to help you get your writing ready for publication, and we take that job seriously.
How long does it take to complete a project?
Each project has its own time line. It may take two weeks or two months- the timing really depends on the client. We want to complete your project in a timely fashion, but we also understand that some clients need time to decide on things like a website theme or color scheme so we will not rush you. On our end, we promise timely and professional response times. We wish we could predict the exact minute that your project will be done, but we cannot. We can only assure you that we will not be satisfied with the end-product until you are. We want each client to love their new website, book, and/or book cover.
Are there any restrictions on the services you provide?
Yes, we reserve the right to to refuse projects proposed to us. We want to complete all projects in a timely manner, so sometimes we will refuse a new client or project due to our workload or due to the complexity of what is being asked. Below are some further restrictions on the types of projects that we will undertake:
We do not design websites or provide other services that are erotic, glorify criminal activities, advocate for illegal actions, or infringe on any proprietary or other rights of third parties.
We do not design websites or other services that:
1. Violate or infringe on the rights of others, including without limitation patent, service mark, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary rights;
2. Are unlawful, deceptive, fraudulent, defamatory, slanderous, libelous, adult-themed, or advocate or glorify illegal activities;
3. Impersonate any person, business or entity, or in any way falsely state or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity; or
4 Violate our Terms of Use or any other guidelines or policies posted on this website.
Who controls Copyright, Royalties, and Publishing Rights?
You retain control of your creative work, including all rights and future royalties. We are a publishing service, not a vanity press. We help you by getting your manuscript ready for publication. Everything is a for set price. We don’t charge monthly fees and we would NEVER expect a share of your royalties.
Frankly, any company that demands a percentage of your future sales is a company you should run away from. At Public Author, we don’t chain you down with long-term conditions. You pay for the services that you truly need and that is all you pay for. These are one-time expenses; there is no reason why anyone should be tying you up with restrictive contracts and demanding a piece of every sale from now on. We consider such practices to be unethical.
Where will my Book be selling?
That will be your choice, but we will gladly guide you through the decision process, which includes where to sell and at what price points. We help authors get their books to many of the world’s best-known bookstores, including: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, and Kobo.
You can sell internationally too.
We will also help authors work through distributors like Direct2Digital, Ingrams, Baker and Taylor, and Amazon KDP. With print books, we specialize in setting up books through Amazon KDP.
Will I get the master files for my Book or Website?
Yes. Upon completion and payment, you will receive a master-copy of your project, be it the e-book files, POD book files, cover art, or access codes to your new website. At Public Author, we don’t hide stuff from you or grab for your wallet again and again. We offer great services at fair prices. When done, the final files are yours.
What type of Print Books do you help design?
We have worked on non-fiction and fiction titles, which often demand different types of formatting. We specialize in creating high-quality Trade Paperbacks. We seek to design books that catch the eye of potential readers and draw them in. Not only do we craft great covers, we make sure the interior of the book is properly formatted, from the title page to the table of contents, from the artwork to the chapter headings. We want your book to stand out for all the right reasons- because it is a lovely book to look at and is formatted for ease-of-use.
